Jordan Valley is a Federally Qualified Health Center that serves as the primary clinic site for the Jordan Valley FMR. We partner with CoxHealth to provide an excellent education for residents who are passionate about training in a community-based setting.

SMC GME FMR Program Aims

1. The primary clinical site is an FQHC that cares for a vulnerable population in Springfield Missouri with a multidisciplinary team.

2. Residents will consider social determinants of health as they care for their patients.

3. Residents will participate in educational opportunities with a hospital system that values education.

4. The program will provide a broad scope of family medicine training to equip residents with skills to serve diverse communities.

5. Faculty members will mentor residents in professionalism and leadership development.

6. Residents will participate in creating a healthy work environment and be encouraged to advocate for physician wellness.

Applications are accepted only through ERAS. An applicant must meet the following qualifications to be eligible for appointment to the SMC GME FMR:

  1. Satisfactory completion of Steps I and II of the Boards (either the United States Medical Licensing Examination (“USMLE”) or the Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (“COMLEX”)), and
  2. Graduation from a medical school in the United States or Canada, accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), or
    • Graduation from a college of osteopathic medicine in the United States, accredited by the American Osteopathic Association Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (AOACOCA), or
    • Graduation from a medical school outside of the United States or Canada, and meeting the following additional qualifications:
      • Holds a currently-valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) prior to appointment or holds a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a United States licensing jurisdiction in their current ACGME specialty/-subspecialty
      • 1 year, or less, has passed since applicant has graduated from medical school program
      • Applicant has not failed the same board exam twice or more
  3. Applicant must be able to obtain a temporary physician license from the state of Missouri prior to their first year of residency, and a permanent physician license from the state of Missouri during their second year of residency.
    • If an applicant is an international medical graduate, they will not be required to meet this licensure eligibility requirement

  • Salary: PGY-1 $62,185 / PGY-2: $64,481 / PGY-3: $67,026
  • All residents receive: 160 hours (20 days) of PTO , 9 paid Holidays, and 40 hours PTO for CME each year.
  • Course fees for basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, advanced trauma life support, STABLE, neonatal resuscitation and advanced life support in obstetrics are paid by the program.
  • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance options provided for residents and eligible dependents.
  • All fees for licensure are paid by the program, including permanent licensure, BNDD and DEA for those who qualify.
  • Malpractice Insurance is provided at no cost to the resident for activities associated with the residency program.
  • Leave of Absence: 6 weeks paid medical, parental, and caregiver leave of absence for qualifying reasons consistent with applicable laws are available annually
  • Relocation allowance is provided.
  • Program pays for initial registration for USMLE/COMLEX Step III.
